From Praxis of Memory-Keeping by Australian Indigenous Peoples

要旨
本稿では、オーストラリア社会において、先住民との「和解」が提起された1990 年代以降、アーカイブズ学
の従来の諸概念がいかに問い直されてきているのかについて論じ、そこから新たに生み出されつつある概念の意
義を明らかにする。従来のアーカイブズ学が前提としてきたのは、記録と作成者の結びつき、ならびに、業務上
の記録としての文書という形式であったが、それは、記録の対象者、および、オーラルな記憶との非対称な関係
性のもとで成り立つ西洋的な観念であった。そして、このような観念を乗り越える新たな概念として提示されて
いるのが、先住民の知の様式から着想を得た「アーカイブ的多元宇宙」である。この新たな概念は、これからの
レコードキーピング／アーカイビングの未来をいかに展望するものであるかについて、考察する。
This paper discusses how traditional concepts in archival science have been reconsidered since the 1990s,
when the problem of “reconciliation” with indigenous peoples was raised in Australian society. Next, the
significance of the newly created concepts will be clarified. Traditional archival theory has presupposed the
connection between records and the creator, and the form of a document as records created in the transaction
of business. However, it was based on an asymmetrical relationship with the subject of records and with oral
memory. And the “archival multiverse” inspired by the indigenous ways of knowing is presented as a new
concept that overcomes this Western thinking. We will consider how this new concept looks into the future of
recordkeeping and archiving.

要旨
歴史資料やテキストをめぐる非対称性を克服する試みは、社会における多様性を保障する動きと深く関わる。
日本近世史を対象とする民衆史研究や部落史研究、アイヌ史研究や都市史研究を中心に、歴史研究や歴史叙述に
おける長い蓄積を整理する。さらに、文字資料を主な分析対象とするという歴史学研究の手法に対する批判や、
アイヌ－和人関係史を中心にマイノリティをめぐる歴史資料の保存や公開に関する問題点を指摘する。以上の作
業を通じて、大会企画テーマ「社会の多様性とアーカイビング」が持つ可能性と問題点を、歴史学の立場から考
察する。
The attempt to overcome the asymmetry of historical materials and texts is deeply related to the
movement to guarantee diversity in society. This manuscript will organize the long accumulation of historical
research and historical descriptions, focusing on the study of popular history, Buraku history, Ainu history, and
urban history in early modern Japanese history. The manuscript also notes criticism of the methods primarily
used in historical research, and problems in the preservation and publication of historical materials and official
documents on minority groups, with a focus on the history of the Ainu. Through the above work, I will
examine the possibilities and problems of the conference theme “Social Diversity and Archiving,” from the
standpoint of Japanese historical research.
